Nerds Unite at the Lakewood Masonic Temple Swing Dance on Friday, March 8th! Come and celebrate 3.14 with us and help raise money for a good cause, The Cleveland Junior Jitterbugs!! This is our annual Pi dance where we celebrate our geeky nerdiness openly! Wanna dress like a Tardis? That's cool! Want to dress like a band geek? That's awesome too! The cost of the dance is $12 per person. Cash only. Pay at the door. Be sure to arrive in time to take part in the easy jitterbug lesson from 8 pm to 9 pm with the swing dance geeks from Get Hep Swing! Immediately after the lesson (at 9 PM) Hepcat Revival will kick off an awesome night of music and swing dancing until 12 am. Be sure to pay attention to the songs that Hepcat plays. They have some special songs that fit our nerdy theme perfectly! When was the last time you danced to a jazzy version of the "Spiderman" theme song? Or to a swing song about plate tectonics? (a real gem!). Be sure to wear your geekiest, nerdiest attire as we will be having a costume contest! The costume contest will take place during the first band break around 10 pm. We have REALLY awesome prizes this year! You should really try your best to win! We are also selling pie* as a fundraiser for our Cleveland Junior Jitterbugs swing dance program. The Millennial Theatre Company (MTC) with Sunrise Entertainment are holding auditions for Chicago the Musical. Auditions will be held at The Stage Door Theatre Arts and Dance Academy located at 23 W McKinley Way, Poland, Ohio 44514. Auditions will be held March 2nd and 3rd from 10am until 2pm. There will also be auditions on March 4th from 6-9 PM. The production will be performed May 29th-31st at the DeYor Performing Arts Center in downtown Youngstown. The show will be directed by Joe Asente with music direction by Savannah Florkowski and choreography by Makayla McIntosh. Auditioners should prepare roughly 60 seconds of music in the style of the show, showing off their range. Please bring sheet music, preferably with chords, as an accompanist will be provided. Please also come prepared to learn a small dance combination. Callbacks will be scheduled after the auditions, along with a dance/movement callback, if needed. Looking for strong singers and dancers! Dancers who do not consider themselves to be strong singers are still encouraged to attend, as dance-only roles will be given. All roles are open for those 16 years or older. Show Synopsis: “Set in the legendary city during the roaring “jazz hot” 20s, Chicago tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail. The Movement Project Pre-Professional Summer Intensive Audition in North Ridgeville The Movement Project will be hosting an audition at JAM Dance Academy in North Ridgeville March 10th for dancers aged 12-18 to take part in this year’s summer intensive July 29th-August 3rd. This one week intensive is geared for serious-minded dancers interested in furthering themselves as creative artists and who wish to deepen and grow their technical and performance knowledge. This intensive provides a rigorous daily schedule in professional training, creative practice and rehearsals taught by TMP artistic directors, company members, as well as notable guest artists in the dance community. The program will focus on modern dance technique, contemporary, ballet, improvisation, composition, injury prevention and somatic practices. In addition to movement courses, the program includes courses designed to prepare young artists for a career in dance such as, resume building, dance on film and marketing.
