ORGANIST/PIANIST Old South Church UCC in Kirtland, OH is seeking a part-time organist/pianist to play for our 10:30 a.m. Sunday service and to accompany the Chancel Choir which rehearses on Thursday evenings. The church has a 2-manual Wicks pipe organ. A skilled pianist with the some ability to play the organ would be considered. This position regularly runs from September through May. Playing for summer services is optional and paid separately. This is a progressive and welcoming congregation that appreciates good music. If you don't know where Kirtland is: the church is easily reached by taking route 306-S off of I-90 east of 271. It is near Lakeland Community College and Holden Arboretum. EVENT: Dover Players' Presents an Original Award Winning Comedy, Jake's Dilemma Dover Players first production of 2019 is an award winning (OCTA award for script writing) original comedy, Jake's Dilemma, written by Gregory J. Lavelle and co-directed by Greg Lavelle and Adam Leventhal. Synopsis: Jake is a crusty, crazy, cheap, impecunious, paranoid, retired school teacher from Cleveland, Ohio who runs a diner in the middle of nowhere in Arizona. Jake is convinced that a stranded couple, Mary and Joseph, from Voorheesville, New York, are actually extra-terrestrials. Jake holds the couple captive. Joseph, to humor Jake, "confesses" to being an alien, while Mary goes bonkers trying to convince Jake that Joseph was just saying things Jake wanted to hear. She graduated in 2014 summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Science in Community Programs for Americans with Disabilities with a specialization in Adapted Physical Activity. She has combined the two degrees and worked as a teaching artist for outreach programming for Attack Theatre and Dancing Wheels Company and School. Rebecca has performed with Marcia Custer, Kathy Diehl, Amanda Tarr Dance Company, The Movement Project, MegLouise Dance, and Carmen Caceres. Her work has been selected for presentation most recently at SPACES Art Gallery, Cleveland Dance Fest, dotdotdot, and has been commissioned by The Movement Project. Rebecca has taught various masterclasses including classes as a guest artist at Slippery Rock University, Cleveland Dance Fest, and The Movement Project’s 2016 Winter Intensive. She has also worked as a Production Manager for Heidi Latsky Dance and IDACO Dance Festival. Rebecca is currently the Education and Community Engagement Coordinator for GroundWorks Dance Theater and an instructor at Beck Center for the Arts. She views her work with dance as a vehicle for change, awareness, education, protest, and acceptance.

Stocker Arts Center Film Series

Hello! Just a friendly reminder about next week's film in the Stocker Arts Center's Film Series on the Lorain County Community College campus. Films are featured on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. in the Hoke Theatre. Evelyn Friday, March 1, 7:30 p.m. 2002 (PG) 94 min. Ireland Director: Bruce Beresford Cast: Pierce Brosnan, Aidan Quinn, Stephen Rea, Alan Bates, Sophie Vavasseur, Julianne Margulies Pierce Brosnan plays Desmond Doyle, an alcoholic and a carpenter who has two sons and a daughter. When his wife abandons the family, the government social workers come around, size up the situation, and advise, "send in the nuns." The children are sent to orphanages, on the grounds, then sanctified in Irish law, that a father cannot raise children by himself. In this moving, ultimately uplifting drama, a father must fight the Church, the Irish courts, and tremendous odds in order to keep his family together. Based on a true story and set in 1950s Ireland, the film follows Desmond Doyle as he struggles to lovingly raise three young children alone. The Church and the Irish courts, however, determine and insist that the children instead be raised in an orphanage. Doyle defiantly vows to reunite his family at whatever the cost. Enlisting the help of friends, he attempts to do what, to that point, had never been attempted: challenge a law before the Irish Supreme Court. The devotion of this father will not be defied by any earthly power. Consequently, he alone effectively changes a horrible policy for all of Ireland and makes history in the process. Join Us On March, 4th For Our Next General Meeting The next meeting of the Songwriter Summit (nee: Summit County Songwriter Circle) will be held on March 4th at 2 Girls Cafe & Bakery, 3707 Darrow Road in Stow, OH. Our general meeting begins at 7 PM and is usually over by 9 o’clock. Meetings feature presentations of new songs or works in progress offered by members and non-members alike. You do not need to be a member to present a song and you do not need to be a writer to attend the meeting. Members discuss the songs, offer gentle critique and comment as requested by the performer. Songwriter Summit exists to connect songwriters throughout the area and has members that often travel from Pennsylvania and West Virginia to attend. Today-thru Sunday mark the final three performances of CWRU Department of Theater’s third production, Private Eyes in Eldred Theater! Written by Steven Dietz, Directed by Jeffrey Ullom “Love, and the theater, can be rife with imagined realities, deception, and betrayal. In award-winning playwright Steven Dietz’s contemporary drama, the play’s characters and audiences alike question reality as the (dis)illusion of truth unfolds.” The production runs February 15th-24th. Spring auditions are here and are you prepared? Dr. Christopher Hutton, Baritone, is taking new voice students and excited to get you physically and mentally prepared for auditions and performances. Dr. Hutton has a Masters Degree and Doctorate of Music Arts degrees in Vocal Pedagogy (Science of Singing) from Arizona State University, and is fluent in teaching both belting/music theatre technique and classical technique. Christopher attended Youngstown State University where he received his Bachelors in Voice Performance. He has also performed opera at regional opera houses for over thirteen years. Dr. Hutton offers free consultations to those interested before committing to the voice studio.
