Located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS: “Afterglow” is a raw, one-act play exploring the emotional, intellectual, and physical connections between three men and the broader implications within their relationships. Josh and Alex, a married couple in an open relationship, invite Darius to share their bed one night. When a new intimate connection begins to form, all three men must come to terms with their individual definitions of love, loyalty, and trust as futures are questioned, relationships are shaken, and commitments are challenged. He is extremely sensitive, but it is not immediately obvious This role requires full nudity, sexual content, mature language and drug use (vaping) Alex (male, any ethnicity, late 20s-early 30s) - chemistry student who grew up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania who is frustrated with his job. He is somewhat ashamed of his humble upbringing and has worked to mask it, especially after marrying Josh and coming into his wealth, which has made him slightly spoiled. He is deliberate in his actions and speech. Nothing he does or says is accidental. He is pointedly articulate. This role requires full nudity, sexual content, mature language and drug use (vaping) Darius (male, any ethnicity, late 20s-early 30s) - massage therapist who was born in Trenton, New Jersey, but grew up in Portland, Oregon. He suffers from low self-esteem and is intent upon pleasing those around him, often putting the needs of others before his own. He identifies as a healer, someone who dispels pain. He is lonely, and is frustrated with trying to make friendships and romantic relationships work in New York City. The Fine Arts Association 38660 Mentor Avenue, Willoughby, Ohio CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS 10 Minute Plays 23rd One Act Festival - Ten Below The Fine Arts Association will once again showcase 10-minute original plays. NOTE: We will accept previously produced scripts EXCEPT those which had full productions in the state of Ohio. Those chosen will be fully produced as part of the 23rd Annual One Act Festival - Ten Below in April, 2020 at The Fine Arts Association. Submissions of original ten-minute plays will be accepted beginning Thursday, August 1, 2019. Submission deadline is Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Only ONE 10-minute submission will be accepted per playwright. Submit your favorite! The number of plays to be produced will be at The Fine Arts Association's discretion and will depend on the mix of qualified submissions. Original plays accepted for the Festival will be announced between January 13-24, 2020. The plays selected will be given full production within the capabilities and budget of The Fine Arts Association. There are no submission fees for this Festival. There will be no monetary stipend for plays produced in the Festival. Festival Submission Guidelines Submission Guidelines: - 10-minute play submissions must be original by the playwright. Plays that have had staged readings will be accepted. Plays that have received full productions, either professional or amateur, in the state of Ohio prior to submission will not be accepted. 10-minute plays produced out of the state of Ohio will be accepted. Legal clearance of materials not in the public domain is the full responsibility of the playwright. - Limit of ONE play may submitted by each playwright. - Maximum Length: 10 pages not including title pages. Play should run in the 10 minute range. Longer submissions will not be considered. - Scripts may be comedy and drama. Not open to musicals. No more than 6 characters. - Simple set and costumes needs and minimal technical requirements. Only basic furniture and minimal props available for the production. - Plays must be submitted with a title page listing the following contact and bio information: Playwright's name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address and a brief biography. - International submissions are welcome. All scripts must be in English. - All play submissions will be handled with care. However, The Fine Arts Association assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged scripts. Is a Choreopoem that centers around 3 women's experience as prominent members of The Black Panther Party and leaders of the civil rights movement: Elaine Brown, Assata Shakur and Angela Davis! It also correlates with the contemporary African American Woman's struggle to navigate in the contemporary world as it connects to the same struggles these " Panther women" had in the 60's and 70's. We are looking for African American, Women, Dancers, Singers and Actors who are enthusiastic about being a part of a highly physical and rigorous process of a new piece. Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre announces auditions for HELLO HERMAN Located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS: Video games, violent movies, Marilyn Manson, the Internet, Prozac, or fame? What moves a teenager to cross the line and become a high-school shooter? More importantly, how do we stop it? Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Lax Morales is looking for a follow-up to his groundbreaking undercover piece on white supremacists. Although his video blog has an unprecedented online following among teens, Lax has been written off as Internet trash by the elite of the publishing world. He needs a big story and he knows it. After killing thirty-nine students and three teachers in a suburban Iowa school, sixteen-year-old Herman Howards takes the time to email video clips of the incident to his idol, Lax. He adds one line to the clips: "I want to tell my story on your show." The public pushes for Herman's televised execution as Lax conducts three days of interviews, using every tool at his disposal to discover what drives the current poster-boy for evil. HELLO HERMAN is a mind-blowing examination of how tragic events like Columbine and Virginia Tech continue to happen in our country. Little Boy (Male, 8-10, African American) - Young child killed in Georgia - haunts Lax in his dreams. Senator John Cox (Male, 30s) - Senator of the town. Believes Herman to be a terrorist. All are part of “small-town Americana”. The play takes place in a dilapidated railroad station. *The Story: *“This is the most hopeless place in the world!” Hilda intones as she and Satch argue over what time it is. Hilda dreams of faraway places to fight the tedium of running the Holly Railway Station until, that is, Leo Tannenbaum drops in out of nowhere just before Christmas. Suddenly an old radio springs to life and the local group of carolers begins to sound like the Morman Tabernacle Choir. The whole town now gets into the Christmas spirit. Coincidence? This nostalgic story is full of eccentric small-town characters who begin to discover the true wonder of Christmas, making us all wish that we, too, could take a ride on The Christmas Express.
