Cleveland Play House is looking for an Assistant to the Lighting Designer to join the production team of LIGHT IT UP!, a new holiday musical. Primary job responsibilities will include assisting the show Lighting Designer during tech rehearsals and preview performances, taking precise notes from the LD, clearly relaying work notes to the electrics crew, updating show paperwork via Lightwright and Vectorworks, and maintaining a current backup copy of the light board show file. This position will attend designer run, all tech rehearsals and preview performances, and be accessible by phone during work calls onstage. The typical production schedule has work calls in the morning, rehearsals in the afternoon, and rehearsal/preview performance in the evening. This will be a full time commitment during the window of 11/19-12/3. The schedule will include the following dates: Friday, 11/19: attend run-through and production meeting (afternoon/evening) Sunday, 11/21: Focus (morning/afternoon/possible evening hours) Monday, 11/22-Friday, 12/3: Technical rehearsals/preview performances/opening Days Off: Saturday, 11/20; Thursday, 11/25; Monday, 11/29 ALD will be an independent contractor with a fee of $1,750 for their services and will receive credit as Assistant to the Lighting Designer in the production’s playbill. Gus wants to be presented in a major exhibition for artists of color, so he hires Vanessa to perform as Balkonaé Townsend, a brash and political artist that will fit the museum’s desire for “new voices.” Everything is great, until Balkonaé takes over and Gus has to deal with the mess he’s made. This plays spins out of control as it explores issues of race, gender, sexuality, and art. Starring: Anthony Covatta, Amanda Rowe, Lifan Deng, and Sarah Kunchik. Beck Center for the Arts Announces The Spellbinding Docu-Drama, The Exonerated Lakewood, OH-Beck Center for the Arts<http://www.beckcenter.org/> is honored to announce an important production in the realm of social justice, The Exonerated<https://www.beckcenter.org/shows/exonerated>. The Exonerated, written by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, is directed by local talent, Colleen Longshaw Jackson<https://www.linkedin.com/in/colleen-longshaw-jackson-959237169/>, and runs October 8 - November 7, 2021, in the Studio Theater. This cast of ten talented local actors includes Actor Equity Association members Amy Fritsche<https://www.kent.edu/theatredance/profile/amy-fritsche>, and Abraham Adams<https://abrahammadams.com/>. This docu-drama recounts first-person narratives in dramatic form through the legal records of six wrongly convicted inmates. The accounts of the falsely-accused explore these people's lives after being sentenced to death, and the legal proceedings that gained their exoneration. Called "The number one play of the year.....intense and deeply satisfying" by The New York Times. Director Colleen Longshaw Jackson says, "What drew me to this piece was the opportunity to showcase human resilience with an honest glimpse of the consequences and lasting effects trauma can have on a person. As we all fight to come out on the other side of this pandemic it is important that we recognize the cost to fight and realize that the effects will last far longer than the pandemic itself. As a nation, we will ultimately survive but we will forever be changed. These three dispirited souls — D-Bear, a reformed thug; Skully, an alcoholic handyman; and Dime, a transgender sex worker — have created a space for themselves and their makeshift family. They have survived in the worst part of the worst ghetto in Ohio, thriving in what D-Bear calls “the end of the world.” This is where we find the trio when D-Bear receives news that a vicious enemy from his past has been released and is returning soon. As this showdown plays out, the fragile bonds that hold the trio together are strained to the point of rupture.
