The short film, Lunchbox, is in search of a Key HMU artist and an additional HMU artist ASAP! *Synopsis* Lunchbox is a dramatic, three-part, coming-of-age short about regret, healing, and honoring the people we love. Using her deceased immigrant mother’s recipe book, Taiwanese American Shirley makes zongzi, turnip cake, and hand-pulled noodles. As she cooks, each dish evokes a childhood memory in which she grows progressively older and more distant from her Taiwanese culture and mother. When Shirley’s assimilation efforts culminate in her election to the Homecoming Court, a mistake by Shirley’s mother humiliates her, eliciting cruel words Shirley can never take back. Based on a true story, this retelling examines the personal cost of fitting in as well as the recovery from cultural and familial loss. *Location: Cleveland, OH * (Open to anyone in the area who can drive to Cleveland. However, we can also do extensive research and interviews with people on which to build a documentary theater piece about a dynamic individual or a particular group or people, say veterans or victims of domestic violence. We have the option to create characters based on those interviewees or by using the subject’s exact words from an interview transcript in a verbatim piece. In this workshop, we’ll discuss the techniques necessary to research a topic and get comprehensive interviews from which to draw material or language for the docudrama. Each student will develop a shorter piece that can stand on its own or be developed into a one-act or full-length play. Auditions due for All Together Now Sunday!

Theatre Agápe is thrilled to announce an audition call for our inaugural production, All Together Now!, a musical revue! After months of laying the groundwork to build a socially conscious and sustainable nonprofit, we are ready to mount our first onstage production. In short, we are here. Theatre Agápe is an arts organization committed to inclusion and accessibility. This will be a hybrid production performed to an in-person audience as well as streamed. If you are unable to perform in person, we will accommodate filming your contributions and projecting your portion into the live performances. This applies to children under the age of 12 as well. Audition Information: Please submit a video audition to theatre.agape21(a)gmail.com. Audition should be 16 bars of a musical theatre song. Videos are due no later than Sunday, October 17th. Rehearsal Information: The bulk of in-person rehearsals will take place between Sunday, October 31st and Thursday, November 11th. A few rehearsals may be held prior to those dates, and they will be conducted over Zoom. Hi all, I am trying to gauge overall pricing to cover a need for an event. My office will be hosting the ornament-making pavilion at the Cleveland Christmas Connection at the IX Center this year. We will have all the materials and a few agents there to assist, but we are looking for someone to either dress as Buddy from *Elf* or, really, just an elf in general (no particular gender necessary), that can serve to help families and their little ones through the ornament-making along with us. Auditions for TheTwentieth Century Way by Tom Jacobson, directed by Clyde Simon This Sunday, October17, 2021 at convergence-continuum AVAILABLE ROLES: Two 30-ish white males. All roles in this production will receive a stipend. Theater policy requiresall production participants to be vaccinated against Covid ABOUT THE PLAY: The Twentieth CenturyWay by Tom Jacobson is a two-personplay and a real tour de force for two good actors. The two characters arethemselves actors, Brown and Warren, and the play is based on the true story oftwo actual actors who hired themselves out in 1914 to the Long Beach, CA policedepartment to entrap gay men in private clubs and public restrooms for “oralsodomy.” But it’s a fictionalized, very theatrical version, starting with thetwo actors Brown and Warren waiting backstage before a movie audition. It turnsout to be a long wait and to pass the time, Warren challenges Brown to animprovisation – which becomes the story of entering the hidden world ofrestrooms and private parties (mostly the latter) and the interactions with themen they ensnare. Over the course of the “improvisation” they each play 6 – 10roles, dropping in and out of character (i.e. back to Brown and Warren) inrapid succession. The play is as much about the nature of acting (both onstageand off) as it is about the relationship between the two men, sexual identity,institutionalized corruption and the conscience of civil servants carrying outquestionable duties.
