*Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute has an immediate opening for an instructor to head up the PRIME division. This is the group of children entering 1st through 3rd grades.* Classes for this age group run weekdays, 9 am - 3:30 pm from Tuesday July 6th through Friday, Aug 6th. The instructor should have some experience working with young children and have a background in the performing arts. The PRIME instructor works with a team of dance and music teachers as well as interns and counselors to create a nurturing environment for our youngest students. ABOUT HBTI : HBTI provides students an environment in which they can immerse themselves in drama, dance and voice. It is a place for learning, sharing, experimenting, risking, and seeking their artistic voice. In this positive, process oriented atmosphere, students will have the opportunity to interact and work alongside working professionals in arts. This “intensive” will grow their theater skills, increase their self-confidence, help them gain social skills and open them to a world of possibilities and new ideas. Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute is a summer, co-ed program for students entering 1st grade through college and is affiliated with the Performing Arts Department of Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Hts. The Coronavirus pandemic is winding down. Theatres are beginning to re-open and schedule their seasons. Cleveland is the home of amazing, original theatrical work. Have you written something over this time? Do you want feedback before you submit your pages? There is creativity in you. As an emerging playwright, I can help you find your voice in your written work. I can encourage you to explore beyond what you have already explored in your work. I can offer constructive feedback to develop your work further, based on goals you have for the play, short story, and novel you are writing. If the work just needs to be read by someone else, I can offer that as well. Fleshing out your literary voice and encouraging it to grow is important to me. If you would like to be tutored, please respond to this email. Sessions can be made on Zoom, Jitsi, or Facebook video through Messenger. $15/session, sliding scale as necessary. Once a session is set up, details to pay will be discussed, as well as developing a shared agreement that supports your writing with your needs with my skills to mentor your work as you need. His plays have been workshopped at Cleveland Public Theatre in their Entry Point series in 2019 and Leap/Conceive series in 2012, Talespinner Children’s Theatre’s PLAYground series in 2019, the Manhattan Project: Cleveland in 2017, OddyTheatreLab in 2011 . He is a member of Cleveland Public Theatre’s Dark Room monthly workshops. From 2015-2016, he was a member of Ensemble Theater’s Stagewrights program. He has written articles for Howlround on disability justice in theatre in 2019 and 2017 and has an essay in the recently published book Diversity, Inclusion, and Representation in Contemporary Dramaturgy: Case Studies From the Field.

Sci-Fi Classic The Day the Earth Stood Still to Be Performed Live as Radio Play in Shaker Heights

Radio on the Lake Theatre, the only professional theater company in Northeast Ohio exclusively dedicated to the illumination of the radio play, will present the radio play adaptation of the classic science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still on Saturday, June 26 at 7:30 pm outdoors at the company's studio at 18516 Scottsdale Blvd. in Shaker Heights. The Day the Earth Stood Still tells the story of a humanoid alien visitor, accompanied by a powerful robot, who must deliver an important message that will affect the entire human race. Members of the acting program of Baldwin Wallace University will be featured in the cast, and will be directed by Heidi Harris, Adjunct Professor of Theater at BW. According to ROTLT Executive Director Caroline Breder-Watts, "We have worked with the BW acting program for our weekly series CreakerBox Radio (heard Friday evenings at 7:30 on 920 WON The Apple and on WBWC 88.3 FM Sunday evenings at 5), and they have been wonderful. We can't to get back to live performance, and work once again with BW". Tickets are now on sale for The Day the Earth Stood Still, and seats are extremely limited. Now casting for "The Woman Who Marries a Sound" -- an avant-garde film about a woman who falls in love with the sound of insects, and her heartbreak when the sound fades away. Seeking the following featured role: "BUG BOI" Bug Boi is a mysterious character who might be a timeless superhero who never ages. Or, he may just be a down-and-out actor living in an abandoned bungalow in Hollywood Hills. Whatever he is, Bug Boi is witty, deep, and engaging – a romantic old soul. Man, age 22-36. We encourage submissions from Black, Indigenous, Latino, Asian, Middle Eastern, and multiracial actors. Strong preference given to actors with improv skills. Don Pavlish is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker who has created numerous short documentary films in Northeast Ohio. Hudson Players Return to Live Theatre with Old-Fashioned Melodrama on First & Main Green 2021-2022 Season Also will be Announced The Hudson Players will do their part to welcome in the summer by presenting She Was Only a Farmer's Daughter, an old-fashioned melodrama that will be presented June 19th on the First & Main Green in Hudson at 5:00 p.m. This fun-filled, family friendly show will only be presented one time and marks the first live Hudson Players production since the pandemic curtailed most local live entertainment options back in March of 2020. "The Hudson Players family is very excited to be back on stage live with this old-style melodrama," said Michelle Dolciato, president of the Hudson Players. "We had originally planned to perform this show back in October as a joint production with Case-Barlow Farm, but postponed the event due to Covid. A lot has changed since then and performing at the First & Main Green will be a great way to re-introduce live theatre to our Hudson audience." Dolciato says that Hudson Players' 2021-2022 season also will be revealed as part of the June 19th event. "We have had quite a few people ask what shows we will be doing this year," said Dolciato. "I would encourage everyone to come cheer the hero and boo the villain during the one-act melodrama and then stick around to hear the three great shows we will be producing this year at the Barlow Community Center theatre for our 77th season." She Was Only a Farmer's Daughter, by Millard Crosby, is directed by Claudia Lillibridge. The cast includes Jessica DeFrange, Sean Donovan, Ellie Kelly, Shelly Palumbo, Libby Merriman, Macey Staninger, Gary Maher and Cody Allen. The performance is free of charge, but donations will be accepted.
