Synopsis: It is loosely based on the story of Sodom and Gomorrah modernized. This is a story about a young man, Lot, seeking to save his girlfriend, Kimberly, from her self-destructive ways. Lot is a beacon of hope in a place that is enraptured by darkness. Consumed by a drug fueled and emotional depraved state they are blinded to the result of the end road, destruction. Character Descriptions: Kimberly- 20 to 30 years open ethnicity. She is a goth/emo young lady. She is strongly dependent upon relationships to give her an identity and emotional support to her unstable life. The sides aren't attaching to email so here is the side: Kimberly takes a breath. Almost breaking down again. Lot jerks her softly. LOT (Calmly but sternly) Just let it pass through you. Don't deny the truth, embrace it. Even if it is painful and heartbreaking. Embrace it Kim. Kimberly takes another deep breath. They sway in silence for a while just breathing as one. LOT What happened, Kimberly? (Start Here) ll ll v v KIMBERLY Claire, my best friend since high school, killed herself today. She always said her spirit belonged to the water...I didn't think she would...She drove all the way to Wells Street bridge in Chicago and got out of her car and jumped. Some people started recording, after she left her car in the middle of traffic. She started running and taking her clothes off and stood on the bridge railings with her arms out and jumped. (Kimberly pulls out her phone.) Here look it's on... LOT (Places his hand over her phone and pushes it down.) I can't look at that and you shouldn't.

Kerstin Vaughn has her MFA in theatre performance and pedagogy. Her theatrical practice and research have centered on inclusivity, accessibility, and consent. She has taken numerous workshops with Theatrical Intimacy Education as well as Intimacy Directors and Coordinators and has worked on several productions as the intimacy choreographer. This workshop focuses on some super important skills like understanding consent for the stage, communicating physical and emotional boundaries, and considering different bodies and experiences in your performances. Plus, you'll learn how to manage those moments of heightened emotions and set intimate choreography. It's gonna be a blast! Actors take on multiple roles in a mosaic of interrelating vignettes, each a new scene with new characters and new emotions. Some are funny, some dramatic, some touching, but all reflect a disappearing tradition of gathering around the dining room table. The New York Post called this charming play “A banquet of theatrical riches.” Don’t miss this smorgasbord of American nostalgia. Audition Info for…. “*JITNEY*” by August Wilson Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood is pleased to announce Open Call auditions for August Wilson's "*Jitney*" directed by Jimmie Woody. Auditions will be by appointment only, and will take place at Beck Center. Interested performers should schedule their appointments by calling the Beck Center Box Office during normal business hours at *216-521-2540*. Open Call auditions will occur *Tuesday, January 16th and Wednesday, January 17th* with slots beginning at 6PM each of those days. Callbacks will occur the weekend of January 17th/18th TBD. Director Jimmie Woodie requests one brief (90 seconds or less) contemporary monologue. If auditioner does not have a prepared piece readily available, a monologue or cutting from the play will be provided at the time of the audition. "*Jitney*" opens on April 5th and closes May 5th. Performances are Fri/Sat evenings and Sunday afternoons only. Rehearsals will begin circa late February. It is anticipated that 2 AEA contracts (Special Appearance) will be offered. All other non Equity performers 18 and over receive a stipend for their participation. *Show/Roles: * Regular taxi cabs will not travel to the Pittsburgh Hill District of the 1970s, and so the African-American residents turn to jitneys—unofficial, unlicensed taxi cabs—that operate in the community. In his late 30s. {More} *Extended SYNOPSIS* *Jitney* is the eighth play in August Wilson’s Pittsburgh Cycle. It takes place in The Hill District of Pittsburgh in 1977, in a gypsy cab station, during Pittsburgh’s period of so-called “urban renewal.” As the city tries to shut down businesses, including the cab station, to make way for new buildings, we meet five gypsy cab drivers struggling to survive. Wilson’s ensemble piece puts human faces to the process of gentrification seizing the United States, telling of the specific human struggles of Becker, Youngblood, Turnbo, Fielding and Doub as they cling to a nostalgic past, while reaching for an uncertain future. Becker, the owner of the cab station, descends into an emotional spiral when his son, Booster, comes out of jail, where he served time after murdering his ex-girlfriend who falsely accused him of raping her. Youngblood has saved up enough money to buy a house for himself, his girlfriend, and their two-year-old son, Jesse, but even this grand gesture fails to redeem him in the eyes of his girlfriend, Rena, who refuses to forgive him for his unfaithful past. Turnbo is an older man who is distressed with the manners of the young people today, especially those of fellow cab driver, Youngblood, and is obsessed with comparing their actions to those he remembers from his happier past. Recovering alcoholic Fielding, who used to be a tailor, is waging an ongoing battle against his alcoholism, even as his continued drunkenness threatens his job. Doub is a Korean War Veteran, and a longtime jitney driver, who equates his time at war where ‘they never paid him no mind’ to the experiences he and his black colleagues have with white men today. Hello everyone. I am a longtime NEO arts supporter ranging from theater at the age of 10 and singing with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus for 12 years. I am also an audio engineer at Audio-Technica, which is a global audio company where our microphones are used in professional recording studios and live stages around the world. They are used for the Grammy Awards and the Olympics to mention a few. The US headquarters is right down the road in Stow OH. We have started a new audio rental department in which you can rent our audio gear for recording studio sessions or live events where you may need to supplement your current inventory.
