none too fragile’s ‘An Impending Rupture’ enraptures Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics Henny Penny, more commonly known as Chicken Little, is the featured protagonist in an early 19th century European morality tale about falsely believing that the world is coming to an end and crying out “The sky is falling!” while doing so. Imagine, as playwright Matt Pelfrey has, that Chicken Little is a middle-aged suburbanite in post-9/11 America. And that his wife Terri is pregnant with their first child. And he has just had his first hit of crack cocaine. Welcome to the world of Pelfrey's dark one-act comedy “An Impending Rupture of the Belly,” which premiered in 2007, had a short Off-Broadway run in 2010, and is currently on stage at none too fragile. The Talent Tree is now offering music and movement classes for children up to age 5 with a caregiver. Summer classes will be held on Tuesdays, July 11th, 18th, and 25th from 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 at The Talent Tree's new location: 1668 Norton Rd. Stow/Hudson. $15.00 per class for the first child and $10.00 per class for each additional child in the family. No charge for the adults and siblings under 12 months. About the instructors: Elisha Mueller holds a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Music, and a masters degree in Library and Information Science. She is an experienced preschool teacher, children's librarian, and performer. She brings her knowledge of music, child development, and experience leading exciting programs for preschoolers and their families. Brian Mueller holds a bachelors degree in Music, and teaches private music lessons at The Talent Tree. He is also a local professional singer/actor/musician/ director. At the completion of the 2017 PLAYground program, one of the four scripts may be placed in consideration for a full, mainstage production in our 2019 season. WILDLY OUTRAGEOUS “NEIGHBORS” OPENS NEXT FRI, JULY 7 AT CONVERGENCE-CONTINUUM -Ohio premiere of Neighbors by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by Terrence Spivey- In parts blackface minstrel show, family drama and tragic farce, NEIGHBORS takes racial rage head-on in our supposedly “post-racial” world with shocking, savage humor. This outrageously provocative and controversial play by MacArthur genius award winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins is directed by Terrence Spivey (director of last year’s con-con production of Bootycandy). Classics professor Richard Patterson is not happy. The family of black entertainers that has moved in next door is an embarrassment—loud, raucous, tacky, shameless and obscene. They’re not just taking over the neighborhood—they’re infiltrating his perfect, interracial family and his perfect, post-racial sanity. In its scathing exploration of denial and its satire of black entertainment from blackface minstrelsy to hip-hop, NEIGHBORS is a shocking, explosive, hilarious and wildly theatrical play.
