Molly (23 - 30): Vulnerable young woman tired of being harassed by her landlord for sex & money. Wants restitution and to be free. Mary (20 - 27): In an abusive relationship, this young woman college student finds comfort in her friends (Molly & Alice) and safety from her ex through a male friend she has in class. Brad (20 - 28): Mary's controlling, abusive boyfriend, soon to be ex Ted (20 - 27): Mary's college class friend & secret crush. He ends up showing her (Mary) support when she needs it the most by doing something sketchy to win her heart. Apartment Landlord (28 - 40): Landlord who harasses Molly for sex, and when she refuses to hand it over - which she never does hand it over - he asks her for her rent money before it is due, in order to feed his gambling addiction. Alice's Boss (28 - 50): Kind of a bitchy boss who overworks Alice and is rarely satisfied with her efforts. Even gives her work to do on the weekend.

Wandering Aesthetics Presents… “The Boiling Point” Play Reading and Discussion Vinegar Tom by Caryl Churchill Wandering Aesthetics is proud to announce Vinegar Tom by Caryl Churchill as the next play in our monthly play reading series, The Boiling Point. Vinegar Tom will be read on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 7 pm at the Wadsworth Shelter in Sand Run Metro Park located at 1400 Sand Run Parkway in Akron, Ohio. The Boiling Point is open to the public. Anyone may come and read a part or simply listen and join the discussion afterwards. While the event is free, there is a $5 suggested donation to help cover the costs associated with scripts and space rental. Alice and her mother Joan are accused of witchcraft after an altercation with their neighbors, followed by several mishaps upon their neighbor’s farm - supposedly the result of Joan's "witchcraft.” Vinegar Tom examines gender and power relationships through the lens of 17th century witchcraft trials. The script employs features of the epic theater associated with German playwright Bertolt Brecht, particularly the non-realistic use of songs. About the Playwright: Caryl Churchill is an English dramatist known for her use of non-naturalistic techniques and feminist themes, dramatization of the abuses of power, and exploration of sexual politics. She is acknowledged as a major playwright in the English language and one of world theatre's most influential writers. About The Boiling Point: The Boiling Point is that wild moment where internal pressures surpass outer, triggering a transformation. “Alternative” plays serve as our fuel to ignite the minds of Akronites. By reading a diverse array of texts, we set ablaze different genres, aesthetics and cultures– especially those works beyond the scope of traditional American theatre. The friction between these new encounters and their resulting conversations will generate the spark of fresh ideas that will take Akron to The Boiling Point.

The play opens its four-weekend run on the main stage at 40 River Street starting May 29, with the message that careers, waistlines, and even marriages may disappear, but real friendships last a lifetime. In this hilarious comedic romp, four Southern women have sworn to keep the promise they made on the night of their Senior Prom: to be in each other's weddings at any cost. More than thirty years later, these friends-for-life are still determined to honor that vow. Libby Ruth (Helen Graf) is the hopeful romantic with the perfect marriage who believes that her friends can find the very same happiness. Headstrong Deedra (Mary Mahoney) has found her rock-solid marriage cracking due to her husband's wandering eye and hands to match. Monette (Evie Koh) is flashy, high-spirited, and self-involved, continually testing her friends' love and patience with all-too-frequent trips down the aisle.
