Workshop Fundraiser Update

Summer is busy and so are many of you. We have opted to cancel the show for Saturday, June 23 at 7:30, but the Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. is still on, and there are seats available. Better When I’m Singin’ with Steppin’ Out Show Choir A fundraiser for Workshop Players and Steppin’ Out Steppin' Out is a Women's Show Choir in its 62nd year. Their members volunteer their time and talent year round to entertain throughout Northeast Ohio and to help raise funds for groups in need in the surrounding communities. Audience members will enjoy 2 hours of singing and dancing to music from the 1940's to current times. From Frank Sinatra to Megan Trainor, this show includes songs from Broadway, a Latin section, some popular tunes and much more in a family-friendly environment. Much of the fun of this group is hearing a familiar tune, but with a different arrangement that adds a spark and a bit of a surprise. Sunday, June 24 at 3 p.m. Doors open 45 minutes before show time. Tickets are $15 each. *Dobama Theatre is hiring interns for its 2018/19 Mainstage Season! * Internships are available to university students, graduates and high school seniors and span a multitude of disciplines. INTERNSHIPS Interested in an internship at Dobama Theatre? We are Northeast Ohio’s leading professional theatre dedicated to Cleveland premieres of contemporary plays by emerging and established playwrights – one of the region's only full-time Equity Small Professional Theatres. Interns gain professional experience helping to produce some of the best new plays in American Theatre for Cleveland audiences. *WHY INTERN AT DOBAMA THEATRE?* Dobama Theatre offers hands-on experience in artistic and management areas, including Arts Management, Finance, Marketing, Development, Event Planning, Stage Management, Box Office/Front of House, Lighting, Sound, Costume, Scenic Design, Projection Design, Directing and Props. Interns gain valuable experience and are presented with many networking opportunities with theatre professionals in the greater Cleveland area. *WHAT TYPES OF INTERNSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE?* *Artistic Direction/Directing Interns *assist in the direction or dramaturgical work of at least two mainstage productions per season and shadow the Artistic Director and Production Manager for the remaining productions. Artistic Direction Interns assist in both the operations of the theatre and the rehearsal process and, in some cases, can direct smaller scale projects and events such as readings and education programs. *Design Interns* serve as assistants to Dobama’s Resident Designers or Resident Scenic Artist on mainstage productions. In some cases, design interns can design smaller scale projects and events themselves. They assist their respective supervisors in both the rehearsal and technical processes and get experience hanging equipment, writing cues, creating artistic material and much more. *Stage Management Interns* assist Dobama’s Resident Stage Managers on at least two mainstage productions. Stage Management Interns can earn professional credits from an Equity theatre and are also offered the opportunity to enroll in the Equity Membership Candidate program. *Administration/Box Office Interns* get experience in the day-to-day running of an Equity Small Professional Theatre. Work in marketing, public relations, contracts, archiving, ticketing/box office, front-of-house and much more. Get hands-on training in theatre management and assist in planning special events including fundraisers, donor appreciation parties and receptions. *Production Interns *serve as Production Assistants on mainstage productions and assist with the production management of the Playwrights’ GYM and the Marilyn Bianchi Kids’ Playwriting Festival. *Technical Interns *assist Dobama’s Resident Technical Director and Master Carpenter with the construction of each Mainstage set throughout the season. Get experience working with designers to craft their artistic visions, learn how to operate equipment and assist in the management and daily operations of an Equity scene shop. *WHAT ARE THE HOURS LIKE?* They differ, but generally fall somewhere between 15-20 hours per week. For Administrative/Box Office Interns, that time might be exactly 20 hours per week during regular office hours. For a Technical Intern, that might mean two or three weeks of 40 hours, followed by three weeks of not coming to the theatre at all. For a Stage Management Intern, rehearsal times generally fall in the evenings but Interns may not be required to attend every rehearsal. We are flexible and will do all we can to accommodate outside schedules. ***All Interns are required to complete one 4-6 hour shift in the Administrative Office per week while not in production.* *ARE INTERNSHIPS PAID OR UNPAID AND WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?* Internships are unpaid and open to anyone looking for theatre experience including undergraduate students, graduate students and recent graduates looking for an opportunity to work in a professional theatre setting. Several senior project opportunities are also available to high school seniors at the end of each spring semester.
