Their tales, though seemingly disparate, are woven together as the show progresses. This one-act play is told through a series of vignettes. ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT Rachel Zake is a writer, actor, and director. A native of Cleveland, Ohio and a graduate of Boston University, Rachel used her degree in advertising and psychology for a few years before moving to Madrid and traveling the world. She landed in LA in 2010 to pursue her first love, acting, before stumbling into published writing. Rachel has published three books: Two People are Coming out of a Building (2014, fiction), The Nomad Diaries (2017, nonfiction), and Pants Off/Dance Off: A Gentleman’s Guide (2019, nonfiction). Rachel is a member of Dobama Theatre’s Playwrights GYM and her plays have been seen onstage at Playwrights Local and other local venues. Rachel has been acting for over 27 years on stage and is a member of SAG-AFTRA, having appeared in many TV shows, films, and commercials. She also served as Director of Playmakers Youth Theatre in Beachwood, OH for approximately four years. Rachel proudly serves on the Hathaway Brown Alumnae Committee. In this workshop, you will create a work of 3-dimensional work of art in the form of a shoe. Gather materials you can collage that show your interests. These items can be photos of friends or family, magazine images or drawings; they can include ribbon or fabric or hardware or glitter; things that you can find around your house and that work together to tell a story. Have a pair of scissors and some newsprint or paper you can stuff in a shoe. The only purchase you may need to make is for 2 rolls of 2” clear wrapping tape. Finally, you will need to select your favorite shoe – which I promise will not be harmed in the making of the project! *Broadview Heights Spotlights Theater presents* *"THE SECRET LIFE OF GIRLS"* *Streaming October 3-11, 2020* Written by Linda Daugherty, this show is based upon interviews with girls on the giving and receiving end of bullying. The play highlights the impact of cyberbullying, the facilitation of mean-spirited behaviors through the use of cell phones, text and instant messaging, e-mail and chat rooms. The portrayal of the sobering reality of these girls' lives can start at-home conversations, providing the opportunity to reveal the secrets and address the complexities which dominate the lives of many young women. Created entirely remotely, from auditions through rehearsals, the production was recorded and digitally edited by Tim Anderson. Show themes include friendship, gossip, bullying, electronic communication, and self-inflicted cutting. During her time there, she had the chance to study many styles of dance. Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip hop, and contemporary to name a few. She received many awards at competitions and conventions, and was given the opportunity to travel and learn from many teachers. After high school she received an internship with the Cleveland Verb Ballet. During her time with The Verb, she was able to work with many instructors and choreographers including Richard DIckinson, Kay Eichman, and Christopher Flemming to name a few. After her internship she went back to her home studio to teach and continue to train. She choreographed for many competition classes and received awards for some of that choreography. After about three years Megan took a break from dance almost entirely. About one year later, she was offered a scholarship to a summer intensive in Cleveland, where she fell in love with the art again. From there she dove into taking class as much as possible, and performing as a freelance dancer when she could. She has worked with a small pick up company and performed in Cleveland and Columbus with them. Recently, Megan has been working with the Cleveland Dance Project, choreographed in season 5, and was a company member for their CDP Company in 2019 and this current 2020 season. Megan also teaches ballet and contemporary at local studios, as well as master classes! An audition class will be held in both Dayton and Cleveland for the newly formed “Ohio Elite Tap Company (OETC)” for advanced teen dancers (13-18). Under the direction of Sarah Savelli and Kandee Thacker-Mann, OETC is designed to provide a comprehensive pre-professional tap education that incorporates history, choreography, improvisation, music theory, and various tap techniques. OETC will have rehearsal one Sunday a month, and company members will participate in select performances throughout Ohio. Debut works will be presented at the “Cleveland Tap Experience” and the “Dayton Tap Project” in 2021, and members will also experience the creation of a virtual presence/video shoot. Upon Covid-19 containment, OETC rehearsals will alternate between Cleveland and Dayton. Company members are required to attend practices in both Cleveland and Dayton to facilitate connection, relationships, and sharing with dancers from both areas. In addition to OETC monthly rehearsals, members will be required to maintain involvement in a Tap program or company in their local area to assure they are receiving weekly training.
