FALL 2021 CLASS SCHEDULE Classes will be capped at 10-12 students Tuition is $180 per 6-week session *with* * Youth Instructor Gabbi Capello <youth(a)cvlt.org> * *Register Here <https://cvlt.org/youth/>* INTRO TO THEATRE (AGES 5-9) TUESDAYS at 4 PM, October 12 – November 16 - We will discover the fundamentals of theatre. - Each week will explore a different aspect of the theatre (acting, stage, directions, lighting, sound, costumes, ect…) - Every class will engage students with different activities pertaining to the theatre topic of the day. (ie: if the topic is musical theatre, we will learn a song or a dance, if the top is costumes we will design our own, go for a tour in the costume shop, try on costumes, maybe have a visit from a costumer) - Students will be given an overview of stage and theatre etiquette. Students will engage in activities that give them a respect and new appreciation for the team work that theatre calls for. STORY DRAMA (AGES 5-13) WEDNESDAYS at 4 PM, October 13 – November 17 - Creating stories through role play, improvising, acting and reading aloud. - This course will allow kids to create new stories and recreate the ones they already know, through theatre, movement and play. - Vocal and movement warmups - Pronunciation and annunciation exercises - Improvisation/ role playing games - Story developing and creating - Character developing and creating - Working as a to team to create new and reimagine existing stories - INTRO TO ACTING (AGES 10-14) TUESDAYS at 5 PM, October 12 – November 16 - Acting 101!! Give students an opportunity to develop their acting and character development - Vocal and movement warmups - Improvisation / role playing activities - Monologue development. - Reading from a script and developing a scene. - Learning to take directions and constructive criticism in a safe environment ACTING FOR THE STAGE (AGES 10-18) WEDNESDAYS at 5 PM, October 13 – November 17 - Developing a more advanced acting ability for the more experienced performer - Help students develop an acting portfolio - Work on specific monologues and scenes with students - Develop research and character development skills - Help students prepare for auditions and individual performances - Teach students team/trust building exercises to prepare them for working with a new group or cast of people TEEN IMPROV (AGES 13-18) TUESDAYS at 6 PM, October 12 – November 16 - Teach students how to spontaneously perform - Team building and trust exercises - Give students the opportunity to develop and create their own characters and stories that are unprompted and unconstrained. - Develop personal improv skills with games, warmups, physical exercises. Beck Center for the Arts Announces The Spellbinding Docu-Drama, The Exonerated Lakewood, OH-Beck Center for the Arts<http://www.beckcenter.org/> is honored to announce an important production in the realm of social justice, The Exonerated<https://www.beckcenter.org/shows/exonerated>. The Exonerated, written by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, is directed by local talent, Colleen Longshaw Jackson<https://www.linkedin.com/in/colleen-longshaw-jackson-959237169/>, and runs October 8 - November 7, 2021, in the Studio Theater. This cast of ten talented local actors includes Actor Equity Association members Amy Fritsche<https://www.kent.edu/theatredance/profile/amy-fritsche>, and Abraham Adams<https://abrahammadams.com/>. This docu-drama recounts first-person narratives in dramatic form through the legal records of six wrongly convicted inmates. The accounts of the falsely-accused explore these people's lives after being sentenced to death, and the legal proceedings that gained their exoneration. Called "The number one play of the year.....intense and deeply satisfying" by The New York Times. Director Colleen Longshaw Jackson says, "What drew me to this piece was the opportunity to showcase human resilience with an honest glimpse of the consequences and lasting effects trauma can have on a person. As we all fight to come out on the other side of this pandemic it is important that we recognize the cost to fight and realize that the effects will last far longer than the pandemic itself. As a nation, we will ultimately survive but we will forever be changed. And as some of us commit or recommit to social justice causes across the country we are challenged to 'Say Their Names' and 'Never Forget' until justice. The lives of the exonerated in this piece matter as well so we say their names and tell their stories, and my hope is that the audience will be inspired to act in some way to make our country a more just and equitable place to be. Using her deceased immigrant mother’s recipe book, Taiwanese American Shirley makes zongzi, turnip cake, and hand-pulled noodles. As she cooks, each dish evokes a childhood memory in which she grows progressively older and more distant from her Taiwanese culture and mother. When Shirley’s assimilation efforts culminate in her election to the Homecoming Court, a mistake by Shirley’s mother humiliates her, eliciting cruel words Shirley can never take back. *Beck Center Announces Auditions for….* ELF The Musical Open Call auditions will be held by appointment on *Sunday, Oct. 3rd* and *Monday, Oct. 4th* beginning at 5PM both days. Auditions will occur at Beck Center in Lakewood. The production team will also be accepting video submissions for this open call if that method is preferred. Callbacks (weekend of Oct. 9/10) *WILL* be held on site however. *WHAT TO PREPARE* Whether auditioning on site or via video submission, all we’ll need is 1 or 2 brief songs totaling no more than 90 seconds. No monologues needed. Please bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided. *HOW TO AUDITION* On site appointments can be made by calling the Beck Center Box Office during normal business hours at 216-521-2540 x10. Video submissions should be sent to ScottS(a)beckcenter.org no later than Sat., October 2nd. *SHOW INFORMATION* *{Performances} * *ELF *will open Friday, Dec. 3rd and close Sunday, Jan. 2nd. Great Lakes Theater is *Seeking Youth Actors for "A Christmas Carol"* *Great Lakes Theater (GLT) is seeking youth performers of all races and ethnicities ages twelve to eighteen, for the company’s 31st anniversary production of A Christmas Carol.* *Auditions will be held on Friday, October 1st, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.* Children should be prepared to sing up to 16 bars of their favorite song and may be asked to read from the script.
