All auditioners are asked to come prepared with one minute of a song of their choosing. Auditoners will also be asked to cold read from the script. (Music auditions are to be a capella or with accompaniment tracks if you have them accessible). Auditioners are asked to wear comfortable clothes as we will learn a short dance movement. Performances: July 15th-30th (Fridays and Saturdays at 8:15pm and Sundays at 2:15pm) ROLES AVAILABLE: Rafiki - A wise mandrill who acts as healer of the Pridelands and guides Simba on his journey home. She is an omniscient character, evincing an air of mystery. Mufasa - The strong, honorable, and wise lion who leads the Pridelands. Sarabi - A featured lioness, Mufasa's mate, and Simba's mother. Zazu - The anxious yet loyal assistant to Mufasa who is always busy trying to do his duty. Scar - The antagonist of the show, overcome with jealousy of his brother, Mufasa, and nephew, Simba. Coldhearted and wickedly intelligent, he will stop at nothing to become king of the Pridelands. Young Simba - The protagonist of the story, is an adventurous and endearing cub who can't wait to be king of the Pridelands. Simba is playful, energetic, and naive, but after his father Mufasa's death, Simba struggles with shame and his destiny. Simba - Grows from a cub to lion in "Hakuna Matata." Older Simba has more complex moments as he reunites with Nala, mourns his father, and returns to confront Scar Young Nala - A courageous lion and Young Simba's best friend. She is not afraid to speak her mind. Nala - Grows from a cub to a lioness before she confronts Scar Sarafina - A featured lioness and Nala's mother. Shenzi - One of Scar's hyenas who plot to take over the Pridelands. She is the sassy one of the trio and is always looking out for herself. Banzai - A slick yet childish hyena who works for Scar. He would be the leader of the group if hyenas weren't so lazy. Ed - The third member of Scar's trio of lackeys. He has a loud, cackling laugh that is his only form of communication. Timon - An outcast meerkat who lives in the jungle with Pumbaa. He is afraid of his own shadow, but pretends to be the confident, relaxed leader of the duo. Young Filmmakers Academy's 8 Week Film School is a comprehensive film studies program specifically designed for kids and teens ages 10-17. Movies are an important part of our lives and more and more kids are becoming interested in how they are made. YFA's eight week program is designed to give your child a crash course in how to create professional movies from start to finish. From screenwriting to lighting and sound, to camera work to editing, YFA's award winning instructors will guide your child through the creative process and onto a journey of artistic expression using the cinematic arts. *WHAT'S INCLUDED? * YFA's 8 Week Film School covers the following topics... *WEEK ONE* FILM SCHOOL OVERVIEW Making movies is fun! But like any other area of study, you need to know the history of the subject before you can be an expert yourself. Week One will focus on the basics of filmmaking and crew positions. We all think we know what the director does, but ever wonder what in the world a gaffer does? How about a set designer or grip? Students will analyze film through an examination of cinematography, editing, acting, scenes, and sound to allow students to view films critically. The class is a fun way to introduce the young filmmaker to the medium. *WEEK TWO* SCREENWRITING The first step of any great movie is a great script. Writing for the screen is a different skill set than other forms of writing, and this class will focus on how to structure a great story within that format. Focuses will include how to craft a compelling plot/story/theme, how to properly format a script by industry standards, and how to use language in a script that conveys your ideas to a director, producer, or cinematographer. Your journey to becoming a screenwriter starts here. *WEEKS THREE, FOUR AND FIVE & SIX* DIRECTING AND CINEMATOGRAPHY Lights, camera, action! This portion of the course focuses on the responsibilities and workflow of the film and television director and crew, from pre-production through post-production. Students will use cameras, learn about casting, editing, lighting and other responsibilities of a crew. Students will study and analyze a film previously produced film scene and then learn how to create a shot for shot re-make of the scene and learn through comparison exactly what goes into producing a real Hollywood movie (minus the million dollar budget.) *WEEKS SEVEN AND EIGHT* EDITING When the director yells cut for the last time and shooting has wrapped, some say the real work begins. Every great movie is only as good as its editor. This part of the course will teach the basics of video editing using state of the art software. From learning the software, the lingo, the basic concepts of editing to, adding music, special effects and filters, your child will learn how to take raw footage and turn it into a cinematic masterpiece ready for YouTube or the big screen. Open Rehearsals and Tickets for OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD

Seat of the Pants Productions is offering three ways for the Cleveland theatre community to engage with ten-month experimental rehearsal process: *Get your tickets now!* June 1789. In the penal colony that will later become Sydney, Australia, a Marine lieutenant is tasked with putting on a play to celebrate the king's birthday. The only catch? His cast members are the English convicts who populate this distant Australian prison camp. Few of them can read, let alone act, and the play is being produced against a background of food shortages and barbaric punishments. Will this theatrical endeavor have the desired civilizing influence, or will everything implode before the curtain goes up? Featuring ten cast members portraying 22 different characters - convicts and officers alike - "Our Country's Good is a triumph...a tribute to the transforming power of drama...It is heartening to find someone standing up for theatre's unique spiritual power.” (The Guardian) The show runs from August 5th through 21st, at Reinberger Auditorium in Cleveland, Fridays through Sundays. Age: 40+ * *Buddy *Buddy is the perfect elf! He is good-natured, he means well, and he is happy all the time. There’s only one problem: he’s not an elf; he’s an adult human. Age: Mid 20s+ * *Elves *The Elves are Santa’s special helpers who love their job making toys to meet their Christmas Eve deadline. He takes command of the stage and has authority over the rest of the Elves, but he always remains friendly. Gender: Male Age:20+ * *Shawanda* Shawanda is a dependable and caring elf. She will do whatever she can to help out others, including Buddy, even though she accidentally reveals that he is a human. Gender: Female Age: 20+ * *Sam *Sam is one of Walter’s Office Staff who is in a bind at the top of the show. Gender: Male Age: 20+ * *Walter Hobbs *Walter Hobbs, Buddy’s real father, is so focused on keeping his job that he is not making time for his family. He can be stern and unemotional at times, but ultimately he learns to recommit to his family. He has a strong, authoritative presence, but he reveals a softer side. Gender: Male Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: B3. Age: 35+ * *Deb* Deb, Walter’s secretary, has the big responsibility of keeping her boss and the whole office happy. She does this by sharing her positive attitude with everyone. She has a pleasant demeanor, yet efficient work ethic. Gender: Female. Age: 20+ * *Emily Hobbs *Emily Hobbs is Walter’s devoted wife who would prefer her husband to spend a little more time at home. She is a problem solver and an excellent mother who is doing everything she can to provide a positive family dynamic. She has a sense of maturity and warmth. Gender: Female Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: G3 Age: 35+ similar in age to whom is casted as Walter * *Michael Hobbs *Michael Hobbs is the smarter-than-average 12-year-old son of Walter and Emily. He quickly befriends his new adult brother, Buddy, and does everything he can to make sure Buddy becomes a permanent part of the family. He has an unchanged voice. Age:12 * *Security Guards* Security Guard #1 and Security Guard #2 are a stern duo from Walter’s office, making sure everyone who enters has permission. They are a duo and a tough pair. She is the consummate sales person: smiling, overfriendly, and always trying to sell something. Gender: Female. As the manager of Macy’s, he is doing everything he can to make sure all the employees stay in line. Gender: Male. Age 25+ * *Jovie *Jovie works as a store elf at Macy’s, but don’t be mistaken: she doesn’t quite exude the Christmas spirit. She is kind of cynical, a bit tough around the edges, and now the target of Buddy’s complete adoration. This is a fantastic role for a young woman with a strong singing voice and acting chops. Rogan - This is a concert version, lightly staged with no dancing required, backed by the full Chagrin Studio Orchestra. - Performances and auditions will be at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, 40 River Street, Chagrin Falls, OH - Characters will be cast based on vocal ability - Actors do not have to be age appropriate nor will they be required to dance. - There will be a limited 2-3 week rehearsal schedule starting Sept 25th. - For auditions, please prepare 32 measures of music in the style of the show. - Please bring sheet music. No acapella. - Ages 16 and up. - This is a volunteer production. *Synopsis* *Kiss Me Kate* tells the tale of two once-married, now-divorced musical theater actors, egotistical leading man Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi, who are forced to perform opposite each other in a Broadway-bound musical version of William Shakespeare’s *The Taming of the Shrew*, in the roles of Petruchio and Katharina. As the battle of the sexes continues onstage and off, it becomes clear that as much as this couple profess to hate each other, they are also still in love. Throw a number of cases of mistaken identity, some gangsters, and additional romantic entanglements into the mix. Wandering Aesthetics & The Spicy Lamb Farm present… Alice’s Adventures “Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” From 1953 to 1974, the Olde Player’s Barn on SR 303 brought theatre to life in Peninsula. Beginning in 2018 Wandering Aesthetics brought theatre back to the village with their summer youth performances, A Play Within a Play on a Midsummer’s Day and The Jungle Book. Once again, students take center stage to bring Alice’s Adventures to life inside of The Spicy Lamb Farm’s Players Barn. This summer, venture “down the rabbit hole” with Wandering Aesthetics… Based on the works of Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures is a youth educational production that follows Alice through the looking glass on her journey to becoming queen. Guided by an unlikely knight (Cheshire Cat), Alice discovers a world full of pawns (The Caterpillar, White Rabbit), bishops (Mad Hatter & March Hare), rooks (Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum) and of course, queens (Black, White & Queen of Hearts).
