Top Ten (+ 1) Story Ideas for One World Day in Cleveland Cultural Gardens August 28, 2016 1. This is the official Centennial Celebration of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens in partnership with the City of Cleveland. The first Garden was established in 1916 so this is the 100th year. Centennial events will be featured. 2. August 28, 2016 is the 71st annual One World Day in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. Historic, Continuous, Official, the one and only, imitated but never duplicated, Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation event. 3. Visitors have the opportunity to visit (eat, drink, be entertained in, etc.) all the Gardens - not just a few gardens or a small area all gardens are participating and visitors can get to them via the free trolleys and people movers. There will be free Lolley the Trolley Garden Tours. 4. A moving Naturalization Ceremony will welcome about 25 new citizens from all over the world as a federal judge swears them in. 5. The Parade of Flags will feature dozens of nationalities, ethnic costumes and more. The true Diversity of Cleveland on display. 6. Passport to Peace. Attendees get a free Passport which they take to any/all gardens and participate in a free, fun activity in that garden to get their Passport stamped. For kids and adults of all ages. 7. One World Day souvenir book. Includes Garden info, maps, history and more collectors edition, free. 8. Variety of Ethnic food and drink. Each Garden will have food from their culture or a food truck/vendor will be stationed there. Example Hofbrau Haus Beer Garden in the German Garden. Slymans corned beef, Hungarian goulash, Vietnamese Bahn Mi, ice cream, etc. 9. Variety of ethnic performances throughout the Gardens. Very diverse, something for everyone, unique settings. Examples Scottish Games, Yoga, Asian dance, opera, Middle Eastern dance, etc. 10. The price is right. Free parking, Free shuttle buses (Not Lolley) from parking lot to the gardens, free admission, and free entertainment. CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE (CPH) HOLDING A CHRISTMAS STORY AUDITIONS FOR CHILDREN OF ALL RACES/ETHNICITES Cleveland Play House (CPH) is casting children ages 7-12, of all races and ethnicities, for its production of A Christmas Story, directed by John McCluggage. All positions are paid. Auditions are by appointment only. For BOYS AND GIRLS: Auditions will be held FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 9th from 5:30pm-8:30-pm & SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10th from 10:00am-2:00pm. FINAL CALLBACKS: will be held on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10th from 3:00pm-6:00p.m. Auditions will take place in CPH's rehearsal spaces, located on the fifth floor of the Middough Building, at 1901 E. 13th Street in Downtown Cleveland. Performers will audition with sides from the script, which will be sent when an appointment is set. Please note that children who will be 13 or older on 12/23/16 are ineligible to audition Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, November 1st, and will be held after school and on weekends, Tuesday-Sunday. The week of November 21st rehearsals will be during school hours. There will be no rehearsal on Thanksgiving Day. Performances are 8 shows a week from Nov. 25th - Dec. 23rd. Children will miss part or all of nine school days for rehearsal and performances. Characters: Ralphie - (9-12) Obsessed with planting the seeds to assure the ultimate Christmas present: a genuine Red Ryder BB gun. Has a wild imagination, is unsure of his feelings for Esther Jane, and is persistent, curious, and dramatic. Flick - (9-12, any race/ethnicity) One of Ralphie's best friends. A follower who is easy to pick on. Can't resist the triple dog dare and gets his tongue stuck to a lamppost. Has a sore arm. Also plays a Desperado. Schwartz - (9-12, any race/ethnicity) Another of Ralphie's buddies. He likes trouble. He's a little more on the ball than Flick and gets him to do things he probably shouldn't. Also plays a Desperado. Esther Jane -(9-12, any race/ethnicity) Has a crush on Ralphie. Sweet, girly and likeable. Best friends with Helen. Helen - (9-12, any race/ethnicity) Smartest girl in class. Likes to talk politics and gossip. Best friends with Esther Jane. Randy - (7-10) Ralphie's mischievous little brother who has a true fascination with Santa.
