Company, Stephen Sondheim’s groundbreaking modern musical, is a mature, intelligent, and wildly funny look at relationships, vulnerability, and “being alive.” Cast- 6 Men, 8 Women, 18 years and older. Robert- The story's protagonist, he is a keen observer who appears happy but holds pain in his heart. He is the only one of his friends still single. Believes the advantages of marriage outweigh the disadvantages. Age: 35 to 45 Vocal Range: Baritone Susan- A delicate southern belle. Peter's wife and ex-wife. Motherly in her affections towards Robert. Gender: female Age: 30 to 40 Vocal range: Soprano Peter- Susan's husband. The perfect husband and ex-husband. He is very liberal in his view of relationships. Age: 30 to 40 Vocal range: Baritone Jenny-Quietly manipulative, simultaneously square and wise. Loves her husband, David, and will indulge him from time to time. Age: 30 to 40 Vocal range: Soprano David-Jenny's husband, he is relaxed and always in control. Believes a man should be married and that the sacrifice of freedom is worth what you get in return. Age: 30 to 40 Vocal range: Baritone Amy-A frantic neurotic engaged to Paul but terrified of marriage. After a mental breakdown, she finally realizes that Paul is, in fact, her soulmate. Age: 25 to 35 Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano/Alto Paul- Amy's fiancé. Mildly clingy, but patient to her neurotic nature. He is fully committed to the idea of marriage and encourages Robert to do the same. Age: 30 to 40 Vocal range: Tenor Joanne-Acerbic, demanding, and blunt. Too old to be part of the young crowd, but not old enough to be part of the older crowd. Puts on a brassy front that melts when she is alone with her husband. Age: 40 to 50 Vocal range:Alto Larry- Joanne's husband. He is stoic and centered, but has moments of goofiness. Indulges his wife's behavior but knows when to put his foot down. Age: 40 to 55 Vocal range: Baritone Marta- A girlfriend of Robert's. Intensely modern, who is seeking adventure and excitement in the City. Age: 20 to 35 Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano Kathy- An old girlfriend of Robert's, who is now considered a good friend. She plans to leave the City for a life of domesticity. Sweet and loving. Age: 20 to 35 Vocal range top: Mezzo-Soprano April-A girlfriend of Robert's. She is a flight attendant who came to New York to live in Radio City. Ditzy and adorable. Age: 20 to 30 Vocal range: Soprano DIRECTOR Will C. Crosby -- Originally from Lakewood, Will has worked all over the Cleveland area as an Actor, Director, and Stage Manager. Most recently Will was seen as Prince Herbert/ Not-Dead-Fred in Weathervane's production of Monty Pythons Spamalot. Other notable roles include Smee in Peter and the Starcatcher (Weathervane), Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls(Olmstead Performing Arts), William Barfee in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Huntington Playhouse) and the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz (CAMEO.) Only 2 Weekend Left!! Be sure to see Branches, a new audience-interactive drama about love, family and communication! The show is written and directed by local playwright and actor, Gregory J. Lavelle Synopsis: BRANCHES is an audience interactive drama where the audience sits as a part of a group therapy session. The audience members, by their actions, determine which one of three possible endings is presented. John, a successful middle aged self-made man, approaches his therapist and friend, Dr. Marvin Schwartz. John recently had a one night stand with a woman in his office and cannot bring himself to confess to his wife. The audience then decides whether to bail John out, or to let him face the consequences of his actions. Performance Dates: August 12-14, 19-21 and 26-28 Performance Times: Friday and Saturday 8:00 p.m., Sunday 3:00 p.m. (There is an intermission for each performance when light refreshments will be served.) Protagonist, John Ryan, in a dreamlike state, revisits points in his life, branches, where he had faced options and finds himself trapped by a Twilight Zone-like twist. The play stars Jim Hagan, fresh off his role as Felix Ungar of The Odd Couple at True North, as John, a conflicted middle-aged man who has just had a one-night stand and who cannot bring himself to confess to his wife. Dr. Marvin Schwartz, the psychiatrist who leads John through the Branches of his past, is played by Michael Attali, a relative newcomer to the stage, who skillfully has the audience teetering between believing him to be a true friend to John or believing him to be the devil himself. Susan M. Wagner, who moved audiences with her tough and tender portrayal of a prostitute in the musical, A Fresh Start at the Sunrise Laudromat, gave life to Ellen, the wife of John, communicating her emotions as the hurt, but loving wife. Lisa Randt delivers in multiple roles; sexy teen coquette, Crystal and the alluring Carol, the downfall of John. The supporting cast does more than merely support. Mary Manos Mitchem, as Miss Coulter, skillfully shifts from cold public servant to loving and caring friend. Bob Kenderes portrays John's brother in alternate realities as a down and out drunk or as a confident successful businessman. Marilyn Ransom, tugs at the heartstrings in playing the mother of John and Michael Airhart brings comic relief as Fred and an oafish foreboding presence as the bully, Brad. Even playwright and director, Gregory J. Lavelle (Jake's Dilemma) pops on stage for a brief cameo as Grant, of all things, a theater director. Background music of the 60's, 70's and 80's weaves throughout the play, setting the tone for the scenes. What makes Branches unique is the fact that the audience determines the outcome. >From Dover Players' Guest - Colleen Crowley: LOVED the show!! Definitely a "twist" from the usual at Dover, LOL. Loved how the twist left it up to the audience!! And if the mess is any indication, it's no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious, depressed and none too tense, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean-freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born. What happens when Cinderella, Jack of Jack and the Beanstalk fame, the Baker and his wife, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, the Witch, Granny, two princes, Snow White, and two Giants all get together for one big play? You get Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. The Broadway musical which originally starred Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason has been made into a movie with Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick and Emily Blunt starring. The Canal Fulton Players will be presenting this fine work on November 11-13, 18-20 at Puffenberger Auditorium at Northwest High School, 8580 Erie Avenue NW, Canal Fulton, Ohio.
