Johann Kuhnau, revered organist of the Thomaskirche, suddenly dies, leaving his post vacant. The town council invites musicians from across the country to audition for the coveted position, among them young Johann Sebastian Bach. In an age where musicians depend on patronage to pursue their craft, the post is a near guarantee of fame and fortune - which is why the 7 candidates are willing to resort to any lengths to secure it. Half *AIRPLANE! *and half* AMADEUS*, *BACH AT LEIPZIG* is a fugue-like farcical web of bribery, blackmail, and betrayal set against the backdrop of questions about humanity, God, and art. PAID INTERNSHIP - CLEVELAND SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL CSF is seeking two interns looking to gain technical and production experience for the Summer 2024 season. Interns will work closely with the Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director, Production Stage Manager, and Board of Trustees. As a part of this internship, you will have the opportunity to assistant stage and production manage our season of locally touring summer productions. The assistant stage manager is required to attend all the rehearsals and performances for your assigned show. Additionally the intern role will act as an assistant production manager for our adjacent production, working alongside the Artistic Director to manage the event. 1. This internship is aimed toward young artists (Juniors and Seniors in high school or Freshmen and Sophomores in college). 2. Must have reliable transportation to multiple outdoor locations throughout Cuyahoga County during a majority of weekends June 21 - August 4 3. RIDE THE CYCLONE, A THRILL FROM START TO FINISH Lakewood, Ohio-January 2, 2024- Ride the Cyclone<https://www.beckcenter.org/shows/ride>, produced by Beck Center for the Arts, in collaboration with Baldwin Wallace University Music Theatre Program runs February 9 to February 25, 2024 in the Senney Theater. In this hilarious and outlandish story, the lives of six teenagers from a Canadian chamber choir are cut short in a freak accident aboard a roller coaster. With music, book and lyrics by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell, originally produced by Kevin McCullum and Morris Berchard with additional materials by Alan Schmuckler, this production will be directed by Victoria Bussert. Music direction by Matthew Webb and choreography by Lauren Tidmore make this an exciting regional premiere, in collaboration with Baldwin Wallace University Music Theatre Program. In this dark comedy, the Saint Cassian High School Chamber Choir boards the Cyclone roller coaster, dying minutes later when the front axle breaks, sending them to their tragic demise. When they awake in a strange purgatory, a mechanical fortune teller invites each to tell the story of a life interrupted-with the promise of a prize like no other-a chance for one of them to return to life. All Ernie wants is to find meaning in his mundane life. This is an unpaid, non-union student set, but will provide meals and copy of film. Painting the Town: Art Competition for Utility Box Designs Building on the success of several years of traffic utility box projects, the Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is pleased to announce this year’s project: *Painting the Town*. SHAC is sponsoring a juried *art competition* for the design of *utility boxes* located in Shaker Heights. Local artists are invited to participate. All designs must be submitted electronically on the template provided. Designs and applications must be submitted to SHAC via email ( info(a)shakerartscouncil.org) no later than *Friday 22 March 2024.* Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 21 years old and live or work in Shaker Heights. Applicants who reside in the Shaker Heights School District or are a member of the Shaker Arts Council also are eligible. Applicants may submit more than one (1) design, but each must be submitted in a separate email. There are no entry fees. Artists retain all copyrights to their artwork. All entries must be anonymous. *Do not sign your submittal nor indicate your name on the submitted design document.* André Taylor, Art Educator, will serve as this year’s jury chair. Since all of the boxes have slightly different dimensions, artists whose work is selected may have to reformat their designs to fit the matched boxes. Design Criteria: - Black or very dark backgrounds are not permitted. - Words are not permitted in the designs, per the City of Shaker Heights code. - Art created in non-digital media must be digitized for submittal. - Final designs must be submitted as camera-ready, 600 dpi files. By submitting a design proposal, all artists agree to: - allow SHAC to use images of the designs on printed materials, websites and social media for promotional purposes only; - allow SHAC to photograph the work; - allow SHAC to submit the proposal to the city’s Shaker Heights Arts Task Force for their final approval and to obtain the artist’s modification of the design, if necessary, to meet the city’s requirements.
